Networks
Core Objective:
- Describe and diagrammatically represent 3 common network topologies
- Evaluate the appropriateness of different topologies
Topology?
In computer networks, a topology is a diagrammatic representation of the physical devices on a network, including its nodes (PCs and laptops) and connecting lines. There are several common topologies, but the most common 3 are: bus, ring and star.
Task 1
Using the links below, research the 3 different and common network topologies. For each topology, do the following:
- Clearly title the topology e.g. Bus Topology
- Draw a neatly presented diagram of the topology, clearly showing the nodes and connecting lines
- Present the advantages and disadvantages in table form e.g.
Advantages | Disadvantages

Task 2
The BSCS Primary Phase are about to have their computer network installed. Which topology do you recommend and why?
In your answer you should evaluate why you would choose one topology over the other two, referring to its' respective advantages and disadvantages.

Task 3
Build a network using the simulator below. Can you make your network as efficient as it can possibly be?
